Monday morning started out with Brian heading out to do the thing they pay him to be here to do, while I stayed in the room to sleep in and do the final bag packing. At about 8:30am, as I'm lounging comfortably in the bed, my Alexa soundscape went silent. Suddenly. Weird.
I roll over and try turn on the lamp. Nope. Hmmm. I get out of bed, reluctantly, and head over to the thermostat. Blank. Flip a few light switches. Nada. I popped the door on the room and saw the light on in the hall - but it was about 90 degrees out there already. I grabbed my phone and texted the front desk, who told me that the power was out on the WHOLE ISLAND and Duke Power was estimating an 11am restoration. ARG.
I propped open the curtains on the patio door, only about a foot, for light. I knew I needed to try to keep as much heat out as possible. I got around and dressed, put on my makeup and started trying to figure out how to get the suitcases down from the 16th floor - not knowing how much power, if any, the elevators would have. Brian is still out on the road, I'm trying to figure out all the logistics of leaving the room alone, and I hear a rattle. Then a rush of air. Hm. Air. Cold air.
WOOHOO! The power was back on. Brian walked in about 10 minute later and we left the room as planned, on an elevator, with lights and a/c, no emergency in sight.
Crisis averted - one last look from the Sky Deck then let's head to Orlando.
